Fundraising match to help support Athy family

A soccer club in Athy is hosting a charity match tomorrow evening (18 June) in aid of local boy Martin Davidson Jnr, and the GoFund Me page which was only started on Saturday has already raised over €10,000.
The match kicks off in Michael O’Neill Park at 7.30pm between the first and second teams of Clonmullion United “along with a couple of former players”.
“It’s in aid of Martin Davidson Jnr who went into theatre today (Monday) for a big operation,” explained event organiser and first team player with the club Cody Mulhall (28).
“He had a bloodshot eye last week, and when they got him in the hospital they found a tumour, and they had to insert a tube into his brain to relieve the pressure,” explained Cody.
“His father Martin is very popular around the town, so I thought it would be nice to help out the family as much as I could. It’s crazy the support, but it’s a crazy little town the way we all jump on board to help, which is great to see.”
Along with the GoFund Me page, ‘In support of Martin Davidson’, which has raised just over €10,000 at the time of going to print with one generous soul donating €500 alone, there will also be collection buckets circulating around the pitch for those who don’t have the social media connections to donate electronically.
“Martin has a tough battle ahead of him, so as a community let’s come together to support Martin and his family,” said Cody.
