A SERIES of coordinated multi-agency checkpoints across Kildare has led to detections of road safety and legal violations, according to An Garda Síochána.

In a joint operation involving the Kildare Division, the Road Safety Authority (RSA), Revenue Customs and Excise, the Department of Social Protection, and the Health and Safety Authority (HSA), checkpoints were carried out in both North and South Kildare targeting unsafe and unlawful road use.

Among the incidents was a vehicle that attempted to evade a checkpoint, which was stopped shortly after. Upon inspection, Gardaí discovered that the driver had no insurance or valid tax. The vehicle was also found to have bald tyres and was running on green diesel. The vehicle was seized on the spot, and multiple legal proceedings are now pending.

In a separate case, a professional HGV driver transporting livestock in a fully loaded articulated trailer failed a roadside drug test for cocaine. The driver was arrested at the scene.

“These detections demonstrate a dangerous disregard by some individuals for traffic legislation and public safety,” the Gardaí said in an online post. “We remain committed to working in partnership with all relevant agencies to ensure our roads are safe for all users.”
