Good news for two Naas estates
Naas Town
THERE was some good news concerning the future of two housing estates in Naas revealed at the recent October meeting of the municipal district in relation to St Ita’s on the Newbridge Road and Castle Farm Estate in Jigginstown.
First up, cllr Ger Dunne asked: “Can the council provide an update on St Ita’s housing complex on the Newbridge Road, where some units are empty and others are in need of maintenance?”
The formal reply was issued by Eileen McGrath, an administrative officer at the Housing Department, and it was uncommonly positive. “The formal transfer of these units is at an advanced stage and the approved housing body (AHB) is progressing to appoint an architect-led design team,” she said, although not naming the AHB.
“When the formal transfer is complete, plans for the refurbishment will commence on the vacant properties, and will be discussed with the current tenants,” she added.
A few minutes later, cllr Anne Breen struck two for two for the members when she enquired about the taking in charge of Castle Farm estate, Jigginstown; that’s the process when a developer formally hands responsibility for an estate to the local authority.
“The developer is actively progressing the completion of landscaping works in accordance with the conditions set out under a planning permission issued last year,” said Liam McNeela, a senior executive engineer in Building and Development Control.
“A snagging inspection has been carried out, and remedial works are currently underway,” he explained.
“In parallel, the developer is finalising the submission of the required documentation to facilitate the taking in charge (TIC) process, and progression of Castle Farm through the TIC procedure will follow due process in line with Kildare County Council’s requirement,” he concluded positively.
