Influx of respiratory illnesses as Naas Hospital imposes visitor restrictions

NAAS General Hospital has imposed visiting restrictions due to an influx of patients with respiratory illnesses. 

The hospital is currently experiencing a significant increase in the number of patients presenting for care, including many with respiratory infections, through the emergency department. 

Unfortunately, the hospital says some patients are facing long wait times for admission to an inpatient bed. Due to the high number of patients with respiratory illnesses and ongoing infection control requirements, hospital visiting is currently restricted. 

On some wards, only compassionate visits are permitted.

Hospital management is asking people with non-emergency health concerns to consider other healthcare options where possible, including your local pharmacist, GP, Naas Hospital Injury and out-of-hours GP services like KDOC.

Demand is high at present, and some patients with non-urgent symptoms may wait longer as our teams work to identify and treat patients based on clinical need. 

Anyone requiring urgent or emergency care should attend the hospital or contact emergency services without delay. 

The Naas Hospital Injury Unit, located less than five minutes from the main hospital, treats broken bones, dislocations, minor burns, and a range of other minor injuries.

The local out-of-hours GP service is KDOC, which operates an appointment-only service for urgent medical needs. 

Centres are located in Naas and Celbridge. Opening hours are Monday to Friday from 5.30pm to 8am, and 24 hours a day at weekends and bank holidays.
