Kerdiffstown Park to open next week

The new Kerdiffstown facility that opens on Monday

THE long-awaited opening of Kerdiffstown Park is finally over, with Kildare County Council confirming in a letter to local residents it will begin to allow public access from Monday, 21 October.

Technically, this is what is described as a ‘soft’ opening and will instruct the Council on snags and hiccups over the winter, before a formal opening by the Minister for the Environment during Brigid’s Week.

The Kerdiffstown Landfill Remediation Project commenced in November 2020, with a contract date for completion of construction set for April 2025 – a target they will now beat by six months.

The Park – formerly the county’s landfill site - is located north east of Naas just the far side of the M7, and is accessed from a local road off the N7, and on opening will be a 15-year, €30m environmental rescue package of the 31Ha (80ac) site.

Situated around the Park is a series of 18 carved stones that tell a story of the local landscape and mythology.

The Stones of the Hollow Hill follow a mythical trail that has been created by artist and sculptor James Winnett.

Information on pitch bookings will be available on the Kildare County Council website on kildarecoco.ie/allservices/kerdiffstownpark
