Kildare gardaí are cracking down on the misuse of disabled parking spaces
The Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following the accident.
NAAS Roads Policing Unit have reiterated a zero-tolerance approach to the misuse of disabled parking bays following several recent enforcement actions in Kildare.
Kildare Gardaí reported that recently on Main Street in Naas, a vehicle was found parked in a disabled bay without the appropriate permit. An on-the-spot Fixed Charge Penalty Notice (FCPN) was issued. Officials stressed that disabled parking bays are limited in number and are reserved strictly for those who genuinely need them, not for convenience or short stops.
A similar incident happened on Naas Main Street again, when a driver was found parked in a on-street disabled parking spot.
Gardaí acknowledged that town centres can be busy but highlighted that disabled bays are vital for accessibility. A FCPN of €150 was issued to the driver. Gardaí said their primary aim is to raise awareness, but enforcement will follow where necessary.
The situation occurred again in Maynooth behind Greenfield Shopping Centre, where a vehicle was also parked illegally in a disabled space. An FCPN of €150 was issued in that case.
Kildare gardaí are urging motorists to be mindful of accessibility needs and to respect disabled parking bays, noting that a small act of consideration can make a significant difference for those who rely on these spaces.
“We will continue to enforce this standard without hesitation,” they said.
“Respect accessibility — or face the consequences. Accessibility matters. Let’s do better.”
