Kildare man alleged to have assaulted former partner's new boyfriend with hurl
The case was heard at Naas District Court
A MAN who allegedly assaulted his ex’s new partner with a hurl a month after he dragged her out of her own bed to assault her, having previously tried to strangle her by shoving his fingers down her throat was sent for trial in the circuit court from a recent hearing in Naas.
Emmet Sherwin (39) of Ballnagappa Road, Clane was in in Naas District Court for the formal hand over of his book of evidence, and to learn his superior court date.
Sergeant Mary Meade informed the court that on 23 March 2024 he allegedly “stuck his fingers down her throat causing some asphyxiation” at an AirBnB in Baltinglass.
Then on the 27 November 2024, Mr Sherwin allegedly went to her house, let himself in, “pulled her out of bed by her hair, pulled out her false eyelashes, then punched and kicked her."
Then, less than three weeks later, it is alleged he brought a hurl to her new partner’s house and allegedly struck him with it.
There was also a charge of stealing a car on 24 October, but details of this were not read to the court.
Once the book of evidence was handed over, Judge Desmond Zaidan gave Mr Sherwin his alibi warning, and sent him forward for trial to the current session of the circuit court.
Solicitor Tim Kennelly asked that a condition of bail, signing on at a garda station, be “rescinded by consent”, and Sgt Meade replied: “confirmed”.
