KILDARE roads are receiving significant funding in government spending to prioritise road safety.
Fine Gael South Kildare TD, and Minister for Agriculture, Food, Fisheries, and the Marine, Martin Heydon said that regional and local roads across Kildare will benefit from funding of €20,828,600.
Of the total amount, €11,081,000 will be going towards restoration improvements, €1,391,500 will go towards restoration maintenance, and €1,500,000 will go towards strategic regional and local roads.
The rest of the funding will be split between various grants, speed limit signs, bridges, drainage works, climate change adaptation works, and other road works.
Minister Heydon welcomed the announcement that will see funding used for the ongoing renewal of the regional and local road network in Kildare.
“I am delighted to see that funding will be allocated for essential road repair works across Kildare.
“This funding will be key to enhancing connectivity, supporting businesses, and making it easier and safer for families to get to and from school, and to work in our communities.”
“We want to see continued safety for all road users and key to that is the protection and regeneration of our existing regional and local road network.
“This funding will allow us to repair, strengthen and maintain our roads across the country, ensuring they are fit for purpose.
"These measures will improve the overall safety of our road network, benefiting all road users in Kildare."
Minister Heydon brought attention to two particular road-related issues in Newbridge and Athy that need to be addressed.
He added: “In addition to these projects, I continue to work closely with officials on progressing the much needed second bridge for Newbridge along with securing significant funding for the upgrade of the main streets and footpaths in Athy.
“This essential investment will have a huge impact for towns, villages, and communities all across Kildare."
