Kildare ranks fourth nationally for household solar adoption

ONE in every 12 homes in Kildare has now installed grant-aided rooftop solar panels, according to Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) records compiled by kilowatt.ie.
The county places among the highest adoption areas in the country, holding the fourth position nationally for solar uptake per household.
Records show that Kildare has continued at a strong pace this year with solar panel installations. A total of 1,084 householders have added solar panels so far in 2026, already surpassing the 633 installations completed across the entire year of 2022.
Dominic Ó Gallachóir, founder of Kilowatt.ie, commented on the findings, and said:
"Solar energy is helping households to put a huge dent in their electricity bills. And with the right electricity tariff, we even see some households who get a payment from their supplier rather than a bill. So it's no surprise to see the boom in solar panel installations is continuing."
