Kildare town 'choked up' with festive traffic
Kildare Village
SOLUTIONS to the problem of traffic congestion in Kildare town are being discussed, with roads in areas such as that around the Kildare village shopping outlet being very busy at peak times.
At the most recent meeting of Kildare Newbridge Municipal District, Cllr Noel Connolly brought forward a motion asking that the council meet with Value Retail – the company behind Kildare Village – as well as other stakeholders to “discuss traffic management at peak times” in the town, asking for there to be a particular emphasis on the traffic travelling to the shopping outlet at peak times.
Cllr Connolly was seconded by Cllr Chris Pender and was also supported by Cllr Pat Balfe, who said that the town “is choked up with traffic.”
A report from the council in response to Cllr Connolly’s motion stated that the transport department of the council has had discussions in recent times with relevant parties “with a view to improving traffic flow” in the vicinity of Kildare Village.
Cllr Connolly asked at the meeting if there would be a return of the bus going from to Kildare town train station from Kildare Village. A council representative replied by saying that the return of the bus service had been discussed but they had not heard if it is being reinstated.
