All lorries met at the Travellers Rest pub in Littletown, Kildare on Friday 27 December and left from their starting point at 1pm, travelling through Kilmeague, Milltown, Kildare, Newbridge, Naas, Sallins, Clane, Prosperous, Robertstown, and Allenwood with street collections taking place throughout the run.

A Travellers Rest committee member said: “It was great, really good turnout. Between 78 and 80 lorries came. We have the same companies that come back time and time again whether they’re big companies that send six lorries or smaller ones that send one lorry. The whole reason that this is still running is because we have the support year in, year out”.

When it was time for planning this year’s convoy, the Travellers Rest committee wanted to find a children’s charity and happened upon the Sensational Kids office by accident.

“It was just by chance. It just happened to turn out that the day he (committee member) went over they were after being on Kfm about their funds being pulled for their new project, so it all kind of fitted in. It was pure coincidence the way it worked out. Maybe it was meant to be”, said a committee member.

Sensational Kids is a charity and social enterprise dedicated to making therapy services accessible and affordable for children with additional needs across Ireland. Most children requiring these therapies are left on long waiting lists, most times never getting the help that they need. This is where Sensational Kids comes in to provide families access to the help they need.

Aside from the convoy and the street collections, there was also a raffle and auction that took place in aid of the chosen charity. Great fun was had on the night, with music from Gary Lawlor and the Rebels. All 20 raffle prizes ranged from food and drink hampers to One4all and Kildare Village vouchers, while the high demand auction items consisted of tool boxes, socket sets, oil drums and drills.
