A GOVERNMENT minister took a spin to Kildare Village not for shopping but to see its local impact.
Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Peter Burke TD, as part of his engagement with Ireland’s retail and tourism sector, met with the village’s management team to hear about its role in supporting local jobs, driving investment, and contributing to the wider visitor economy in County Kildare.
Since opening in 2006, Kildare Village has doubled in size — from 63 to 125 boutiques.
To date, more than €185 million has been invested in the village, which now directly employs 1,500 people and supports a further 450 jobs across the region.
Each year, the village also generates more than €35 million in direct wages for the Irish economy, making it a cornerstone of economic activity in Kildare.
During the meeting with the Minister, Kildare Village representatives discussed the village's ambition for Kildare and Ireland and how to unlock the potential of Ireland's retail and tourism sectors.
Speaking during his visit, Minister Peter Burke said: “Kildare Village is a real success story for the county. It has created significant employment, supported local business, and become a key part of Kildare’s visitor offering.
“What we see here is how retail, tourism, and community can work hand in hand.”
Victor Biffi Rosano, business director at Kildare Village, added: “We are deeply proud of the role Kildare Village plays in the local community — from the jobs we create to the visitors we welcome. The support of Minister Burke is a strong signal of how important the retail sector is to Ireland’s future.
"Our commitment is to continue investing in Kildare and ensuring the Village remains a place people are proud to visit and work in.”
