It will be a Mother’s Day to remember in the Hartnett household in Kildare as Aldi’s nationwide search for Ireland’s favourite child has officially come to an end!

Saraid Hartnett from Newbridge has been crowned the winner, taking home an incredible €10,000 euro in ALDI gift cards. That’s €5,000 for herself and €5,000 for her mam Helen – just in time for Mother’s Day!

Speaking about her new title, a delighted Saraid said: “I definitely have some bragging rights at home now. My mam does so much for me every day, so it means the world to be able to give something back and treat her this Mother’s Day”.

The feel-good competition called on people nationwide to nominate themselves or a sibling and prove they were the true ‘golden child’ at home. 1000’s of entries poured in from every county, celebrating the meaningful gestures that make Irish Mams proud, from showing up to Sunday dinner, making the perfect cup of tea or lending a hand without being asked.

The campaign was officially kicked off by Baz Ashmawy and his mum Nancy Ashmawy, who took to the streets of Dublin, encouraging members of the public to call their mam on the spot and tell her just how much she means to them. This heartfelt moment setting the tone for a nationwide search.

Aldi helpfully point out that those hoping to follow in their footsteps this Mother’s Day can find plenty of gift inspiration in its stores nationwide, where a wide range of thoughtful gifts and flowers are available ahead of Sunday.
