A man has been arrested after 18 cows that were stolen in west Cork two weeks ago were located by gardaí.

The cattle were taken from a farm in the Lakelands area of Skibbereen overnight on Monday, November 24th.

Searches were carried out in the Ballydehob area of west Cork on Monday, December 8th, and the 18 animals were found, identified and returned to the owner.

A man aged in his 30s was arrested and taken to a garda station in Cork under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

Gardaí from the serious crime units in Clonakilty, Bandon and Bantry, supported by the divisional search team and the Department of Agriculture, carried out the searches on Monday.

Inquiries are ongoing, gardaí said, with the assistance of the Department of Agriculture.
