Maynooth produced a superb second-half performance that saw them battle back from a point down at half-time to beat Clane by seven when the two sides clashed in the Joe Mallon Motors Senior Football Championship in Manguard Park on Friday night.
Looking to bounce back from their two-point reversal at the hands of Moorefield in their Group D opener the previous week, Maynooth made a bright start against Clane when Fionn O’Giolláin rattled the net seven minutes in.
But three points by Adam Fanning helped Clane work their way back, with Tadhg Montgomery nudging them in front for the first time when he struck over on 21 minutes.

They managed to preserve that narrow advantage until half-time, but that was as close as they would go to salvaging something from this tie.
Indeed Maynooth, despite having had Paddy Brady black-carded just prior to the interval, came storming back in the second half, helped no end by two frees and a goal for Paddy Mahoney that took his tally to 1-4 on the night.
Cillian Geraghty was also proving lethal from the dead ball, firing over two frees and as many 45s to helped propel Maynooth well clear of a Clane outfit that managed just three points in the second half.
Paddy Mahoney 1-4 (0-3 frees), Cillian Geragthy 0-4 (0-2 frees, 0-2 45s), Fionn O’Giolláin 1-0, Chris Canning 0-1, Cathal McCabe 0-1, Sean Hever 0-1, John Flattery 0-1.
Clane: Adam Fanning 0-3, Stephen Brereton 0-1, Sean Tighe 0-1, Brian McLoughlin 0-1 (0-1 free), Tadhg Montgomery 0-1, Jack Devey 0-1, Cian Shanahan 0-1, Shane McCormack 0-1, Rhys Vaughan 0-1.
