Monasterevin Credit Union hosts 51st AGM

A HALF century of service to the community was marked by Monsterevan Credit Union at its most recent AGM.

The 51st AGM of Monasterevan Credit Union was held recently in the Council Hall. A large number of members were in attendance.

The annual report showed that Monasterevan Credit Union had a very successful year with a growth in loans of 16 per cent.

A dividend of 0.10% on shares and an interest rebate of 2.50% was proposed and passed by the members. Brendan Jenkins, president of the Irish League of Credit Unions, addressed the meeting and congratulated the credit union on its successful year.

It has served the community for 50 years and by supporting the credit union the members are ensuring its continued success. The chairperson Mary Ryan thanked the board members, board oversight members and committee members for volunteering their free time. Thanks also to the CEO Sindy Farrell and staff for their commitment and services to the members.

The chairperson in her address said that in celebrating 50 years , the board of directors had set aside a Community Fund of €25,000 for voluntary groups or clubs to help them in special projects. Nine groups were awarded funds and cheques were presented at the meeting. They were the parents council of Scoil Eimhin Naofa for a sensory pad; Monasterevin Access group for amenities in the community; ladies group, Man Beoga, who meet for crafts, workshops and outings; Monasterevin Mens Shed, to help purchase of tools; Monasterevin Lourdes Pilgrimage committee who are fundraising to take 10 young people from St Paul’s school to help on the pilgrimage in June; Health Club Monasterevin GFC for setting up an area for children with special needs; Monasterevin AFC funds for jerseys for the girls in the club; the 14th Kildare Monasterevin Scouts group funds to renovate the Scouts Den and a donation to Monasterevin St Vincent de Paul.

Marcie Gorman was elected to the board of directors.
