Moorefield mourn the loss of Club President

Gerry Moran will be sadly missed in Moorefield and around Kildare

Moorefield paid tribute to one of their club’s most respected members as it was announced that Club President Gerry Moran had sadly passed away.

Gerry’s dedication to Moorefield spanned decades and he was particular influential in the development of young players within the club.

He is credited with helping the development of so many of the players that won nine Kildare and two Leinster Senior Championships between 2000 and 2018.

The Moorefield club paid a touching tribute to Gerry on their social media pages:

“It is with deep sadness that we mark the passing of Gerry Moran, our beloved Club President, a true cornerstone of Moorefield GAA and one of the club’s most dedicated and cherished volunteers.

“Gerry’s contribution to Moorefield GAA spanned decades and left a lasting mark on generations of players and families. His work with the underage football section shaped the most successful period for the club. For over 30 years, every player who wore the Moorefield jersey at adult level began their journey under Gerry’s guidance. He took immense pride and joy in watching young players grow, develop, and progress through the ranks, always celebrating their achievements as if they were his own.

“What made Gerry truly special was his personal connection with players. He never forgot a name, a face, or a moment. In turn, no player ever forgot Gerry Moran or the enormous role he played in their GAA journey. His encouragement, wisdom, and quiet belief in others left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

“Gerry was the embodiment of what it means to be a GAA volunteer. He lived for Moorefield. There was hardly a day he wasn’t at the club grounds, and hardly a match he missed. Whether on the sideline offering support, sharing advice, or simply being present, Gerry’s passion and pride in the club shone through in everything he did.

“Beyond the pitch, Gerry gave tirelessly of his time. He managed club merchandise for many years and was a committed member of the grounds committee, always working to ensure Moorefield was a place the community could be proud of. His dedication extended beyond the club as well, as he proudly represented Moorefield with Kildare Bord na nÓg, contributing to the development of underage football across the county.

“Gerry Moran was one of the GAA’s true volunteers, selfless, loyal, and unwavering in his commitment. As Club President, he embodied everything that Moorefield GAA stands for, leading with quiet dignity and lifelong dedication.

“Moorefield GAA has lost one of its greatest servants, but his influence will never fade. He will always be remembered with gratitude, respect, and great affection.
