Naas Racecourse brings us a competitive seven-race card on Wednesday evening, featuring the Group Three Jannah Rose Stakes, alongside a mixture of handicaps and maidens.

Read on for a preview of the Naas card, courtesy of BoyleSports, who will be offering the latest Galway Festival odds at the meeting next month.

Starting off the evening’s action is a two-year-old fillies’ maiden over the minimum trip of five furlongs (5.10). Just three of the seven runners have previously performed, the best of those being Havana Anna, who has placed on both of her career starts so far and certainly is well primed to go one better today. Darwin’s Angel and Practical Move have good pedigree credentials, but will have to be bang-on to start with to beat Havana Anna.

Next is a five-furlong handicap (5.40). Carrigans Grove is in a good strain of form currently but may have been raised too much in the weights to win today. Whatswrongnow is equipped with cheekpieces for the first time and, remaining on the same mark as last time and given seven pounds by his rider again, looks likely to get his head in front this time.

Race three is a three-year-olds’ rated race over six furlongs (6.10). This is a small but tightly grouped field of six runners, and it looks as if it could be anyone’s race. The form of Fregada’s sole two-year-old start has stacked up strongly, so she should be in with a decent chance, but she will have to work hard to get past Juddmonte’s Revoke, who has excellent course form from last year and should take a significant step forward from her reappearance in the Listed Polonia at Cork in May.

The Group Three Jannah Rose Stakes for three-year-old fillies is next, run over an extended mile and a quarter (6.40). 11 fillies line up for this and it looks like a very competitive contest. Faiyum seeks to continue her unbeaten record, stepping into Group company for the first time. Aidan O’Brien’s Butterfly Wings should be able to regain winning form stepping back down to this trip having failed to stay over further recently. Barnavara, who tops the ratings, steps up in trip for the first time and it’s not a given that she will stay the distance, so it may be better to look elsewhere.

Our fifth race is an apprentice handicap over an extended mile and a quarter (7.10). Magnetic North carries a seven-pound penalty having won just two days ago, so has his work cut out for him. Paddydaddy is given a chance by the handicapper having been only just beaten last time out, but remains on the same mark.

The penultimate race is a mile maiden for fillies and mares (7.40). Two newcomers are introduced; Jess Abi for Dermot Weld and Do Boode for Ger Lyons. Both are nicely bred and from powerful stables so are worth a look, while Coolmore’s Guarded will be well fancied having run well over course and distance last time. Luscious, though, just might have a slightly better turn of foot in the closing stages.

Finally, a mile maiden for three-year-old colts and geldings rounds off the evening (8.10). Paul Mulligan’s Surf On Jamie is the only debutant here, and is probably best watched today. Paddy Twomey’s Standard Deviation brings the best form and, especially with Billy Lee on board, is our most likely winner on paper.
