Kildare County Council's Cotton Mills Warehouse Development

Kildare County Council has installed 208 high performance solar panels on the recently renovated roof of the Cotton Mills Warehouse on its Áras Cill Dara campus.

The Warehouse, situated between the old Barracks and the MERITS Building, is progressing well since having its old asbestos roof painstakingly removed and recycled all of last year.

The firm Solmatix, a leading provider of renewable energy solutions based in Crumlin, Northern Ireland played a key role in powering the sustainable transformation of the Cotton Mills Warehouse Development at the site in Naas.

The project, initiated by Kildare County Council, is regarded as a significant step towards sustainable infrastructure, and the roof-mounted solar panels will contribute to long-term energy efficiency, and move the council closer to its goal of energy independence.

The Cotton Mills development will include two new warehouse and logistics buildings, with gross floor areas of 5,072 sqm and 12,102 sqm respectively.

As part of its commitment to integrating sustainable energy solutions, the council has partnered with Solmatix to equip the site with a cutting-edge solar photovoltaic (PV) system. This system will play a role in reducing the overall carbon footprint of the development and, along with the 208 panels, the installation includes system size of 90.48kWp designed to maximise energy output, and two Solis 40K inverters, to ensure efficient energy conversion and optimal performance.

With these features in place, the Cotton Mills Warehouse will benefit from a reliable, renewable energy source, helping the council achieve its sustainability targets and contribute to Ireland’s broader climate goals.

"We are delighted to be working with Kildare County Council on the Cotton Mills development, helping them take a significant step forward in their commitment to sustainable living,” said Neville Bell, CEO of Solmatix.
