New planning application for 58 new homes in Kildare Town
Proposed design for the development
A NEW planning application has been submitted to Kildare County Council seeking permission for a new residential development comprising 58 homes at Magee Quarter, Kildare Town.
The application, lodged by Lonadale Limited on 10 June 2026, proposes the construction of 46 two-storey houses and 12 duplex apartment units on lands within the Magee Quarter development, which is currently under construction.
According to the plans, the project includes the construction of 32 semi-detached houses, 14 terraced houses, and 12 duplex apartments.
The duplex apartments will include two one-bedroom units, six two-bedroom units and four three-bedroom units and will vary in height, ranging from part single-storey to part three-storey structures.
The proposal also includes the construction of a dedicated bin and bicycle storage building for apartment residents, along with two additional bin storage facilities. Surface-level parking spaces for residents and visitors are planned throughout the development.
The site lies within the former Magee Barracks, now known as Magee Quarter, and is located centrally in Kildare Town. The site is accessible to the town with access for cars, bikes and pedestrians. A bus stop is also located directly alongside the site’s front, which serves the town and wider area.
Infrastructure works form a significant part of the application, including the provision of internal roads, footpaths and utility connections linking the site to the wider Magee Quarter scheme.
Landscaping and recreational amenities feature prominently in the plans, with the development set to include public open space, communal amenity areas and a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA).
Street lighting and boundary treatments are also proposed, including new pedestrian connections to the Curragh Road.
Members of the public can make submissions or observations on the proposal until 14 July 2026.
Kildare County Council is due to make a decision on the application by 4 August 2026.
