Two students from Patrician Primary School in Newbridge had a very memorable school day taking over as principal and deputy principal of the school for a day.

RTÉ News2Day even made an appearance at the school to get footage of the rare occasion, which will air on television screens across the country sometime this week.

The opportunity arose after school student Israel won the golden ticket in the school raffle, awarding him and a friend of his choice reign over the school’s rules for one day.

Principal Israel and deputy principal Nikolae had a go at running the school, getting stuck into all the important duties that come with the job.

In the morning, they met with former school principal David Dempsey, for the handing over of the role, and to go through the job specifications.

The friends made morning intercom announcements and even attended a meeting with two board of management representatives, and then treated themselves to a special lunch order after all the hard work.

The day wouldn’t be complete without making official visits to classrooms to chat with pupils, and granting a one-day ‘no homework’ rule which definitely had the support of their peers!
