No funding for Newbridge estate landscaping

"That's no real answer"
No funding for Newbridge estate landscaping

Lakeside Park, Newbridge

There is no funding available to progress a planned revamp of lands at Lakeside Park and Dara Park in Newbridge, a recent meeting of the Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District has heard.

The disappointing news was given in response to a question from cllr Tom McDonnell asking when a report on the project will be available to view.

He was told by parks and landscape officer Simon Wallace that a masterplan is required for the amenity lands in Lakeside Park, and that this will be considered for the 2025 works programme, but that any timeframes will have to be considered in the context of completing existing commitments first.

"That's no real answer," the councillor responded. "Are we going to do it? Commit to it? Where are we?"

"There's no funding at the moment," was the final answer.

ROAD MARKINGS

Separately, a technical assessment is to be made of the road markings near Ellistown GAA with a view to making the area safer for pedestrian traffic. This follows discussion of a motion on the matter at the municipal district meeting.

Cllr Brian O'Loughlin had sought the installation of rumble strips outside the entrance to the club, which is also the location of a creche and the community playground.

"A lot of traffic comes along that road, especially trucks," the councillor noted. "It's a very busy spot, and definitely needs more warning signs. I know it is not a junction, but it almost is."

The report to the motion said the municipal district office does not install rumble strips.
