ATHY locals may have noticed the absence of glass panels on the modern structure outside the building.

Kildare County Council has confirmed that the glazing panels were temporarily removed to allow for adjustments to the steel frame supporting both the glazing and solid panels.

According to a statement from Kildare County Council, during the installation process, a discrepancy in tolerances only became apparent when the solid panels were being put in place.

This issue meant that realignment of the steel structure is necessary before reinstalling both the glazing and solid panels.

The realignment process is currently underway, with the council assuring that the glass and solid panels will be reinstated over the coming weeks.

The Shackleton Museum, dedicated to the life and legacy of Antarctic explorer Ernest Shackleton, is a key cultural and historical attraction in Athy expected to open its doors this Summer.

The glass structure outside the museum is an important architectural feature, complementing the museum’s modern development.

While temporary, the removal of the glass panels has drawn curiosity from locals, Kildare County Council has reassured the public that the work is progressing smoothly and will be completed in the near future.
