Piggott's swim of Kildare charity postponed until next week

TRACY Piggott has confirmed that her ‘Swimming in Silence’ endurance swim across Galway Bay for a Kildare charity has been postponed due to an official maritime small craft warning, and is now rescheduled for 8 August.

The warning means that Tracy's support team, the Boyne Fishermen's Rescue and Recovery Service, would be unable to safely assist and provide operational support during the swim.

Following careful consideration of weather forecasts and marine safety conditions in Galway Bay, the decision was made to postpone the event, with the safety of Tracy and her support crew remaining the highest priority.

Originally scheduled for 28 July during Galway Race Week, the challenge will see Tracy undertake a solo 14-kilometre underwater endurance swim from Co Clare to Galway City, spending up to seven hours beneath the surface of the Atlantic to raise vital funds for Sensational Kids, the national charity providing therapy services for children with additional needs across Ireland that is headquartered in Kildare town.

"While I am disappointed that we have had to postpone the swim, safety must always come first,” said Tracey.

“The conditions forecast for Galway Bay would not allow us to undertake this challenge safely. I have spent months preparing physically and mentally for Swimming in Silence, and I remain fully committed to completing the swim. The rescheduled date for the challenge is the 8 August.” 

Swimming in Silence will support Sensational Kids in making therapies more accessible and affordable for children with additional needs, while also helping to provide subsidised services for families who need them most.
