IT was an eventful Halloween for the Fire Service in Kildare with over 30 callouts across made the county.
“There was a little bit of pressure around the county alright,” said chief fire officer Niall O’Riordan.
There was one recorded incident of vandalism when a stone was thrown through the side window of an appliance in Kildare town where one fire fighter suffered minor cuts and grazes to his hand “but is alright now”.
“Kildare County Council can confirm that at approximately 19.45 on Friday, 30 October, Kildare Fire Service personnel were subjected to anti-social behaviour, while attending an incident at a housing development in Kildare Town,” said the fire chief.
“A number of stones and rocks were thrown at the Fire Services Crew, breaking the driver’s side window of one fire appliance and causing minor cuts and abrasions to the driver’s hand.
“The driver remained on duty for the remainder of the evening, and the fire appliance has since been repaired.
“Kildare County Council asks that Fire Service Crews be allowed to carry out their work without fear of attack and return safely to their families at the end of an incident."
Gardaí in Kildare are aware of the incident and Kildare Fire Service will cooperate fully with any investigation.
Kildare Fire Service attended approximately 35 Halloween-related incidents on the evening of Saturday 31 October.
During that period, crews also attended various other incidents, including road traffic collisions.
