Plans for a major refurb to the 20-year old Maxol Filling Station in Kill have been refused this week due to “serious concerns” over road safety.
Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) had made the submission on the application by Maxol Ireland.
The substantial proposal would have seen the construction of a new forecourt building and restaurant area.
TII had expressed concerns regarding extra congestion and safety issues on a national (N7) road.
Kildare County Council planners agreed, stating it would create an adverse impact on the national road and would endanger public safety by reason of traffic hazard.
The planners also said it was not adequately demonstrated that the proposed development would not impact the capacity, safety and efficiency of the national road network.
