Plans submitted for major expansion of Kildare nursing home
Willowbrook Nursing Home in Newbridge
A MAJOR redevelopment has been proposed for Willowbrook Nursing Home in Newbridge, with plans lodged by Galteemore Developments Ltd to modernise and expand the existing facility.
The application outlines a substantial overhaul of the current nursing home at Borahard House, Morristown Upper. Key elements of the proposal include the partial demolition of the existing structure, which is currently a mix of single- and two-storey buildings, along with the removal of several ancillary features to the rear of the site. These include a single-storey utility outbuilding, two storage sheds, a container, and two water storage tanks.
In place of the removed structures, the developers plan to carry out alterations to the retained sections of the nursing home and construct a new extension ranging from two to three storeys. Once completed, the expanded facility will accommodate up to 88 single-occupancy bedrooms, each with en-suite facilities, significantly increasing the home’s capacity.
The design also includes two internal courtyard gardens, a landscaped garden at ground level, and two outdoor terraces located on the first and second floors. These spaces are intended to provide accessible outdoor amenities for residents.
Additional infrastructure proposed as part of the development includes the construction of a new single-storey detached utility building and refuse store, a designated laundry bin area, and the installation of an auxiliary generator. These facilities will be located to the northeast of the main building, across the internal access road.
Transport and access improvements form another key component of the plan. The internal road layout is set to be modified, alongside a reconfiguration of parking facilities to provide 29 car parking spaces. The proposal also includes two cycle parking areas with a combined capacity of 20 spaces.
If granted, the development is expected to significantly upgrade and expand care provision in the Newbridge area.
Kildare County Council is due to make a decision on the development on 21 May.
