Progress on Newbridge relief road as milestone reached

The project is hoped to ease traffic congestion and support future development in the town
A milestone has been reached in the progression of the Newbridge Southern Ring Road and a second Liffey Bridge.
The preliminary business case for the project has now been formally submitted to the Department of Transport.
The project is hoped to ease traffic congestion and support future development in the town.
Cllr Chris Pender of the Social Democrats welcomed the development describing it “as a significant step forward for Newbridge”.
He said: “The need for a second bridge has been raised time and time again by residents and businesses, and this submission ensures the project is now in the pipeline at national level.”
The submission of the business case comes ahead of the next round of Urban Regeneration and Development Fund (URDF) applications – a key funding stream for projects like the Southern Ring Road.
Cllr Pender highlighted the work of the council’s acting senior engineer Daragh Conlon and his team, whose work has been instrumental in progressing the business case.
“I want to thank Daragh and his team for getting this across the line in time for the upcoming URDF round. Their dedication and professionalism have been crucial in getting us to this stage,” cllr Pender added.
Minister Martin Heydon said the bridge was one of his top priorities and he would continue to liaise with the Department of Transport as they consider the project's next steps.
Minister Heydon believed the project would boost "the significant economic development potential of the Great Connell area north of the river Liffey".
The Newbridge Southern Ring Road project has long been seen as a transformative infrastructure investment for the town, offering not just improved traffic flow, but greater connectivity and future-proofing for a growing population.
