For THOSE frustrated by the lack of public lighting in the Roseberry area of Newbridge during December, Kildare County Council have explained the reason for the delay.
Clarity was sought by cllr Noel Heavy at the most recent Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meeting for residents of Roseberry in Newbridge on why their area was left without urban lighting for so long in December.
In response, the acting senior engineer for transport, mobility, and open spaces outlined the challenges faced. He stated that the average turnaround time for lighting repairs or replacements is typically four weeks. However, in cases requiring the involvement of the Electricity Supply Board (ESB), such as the Ring of Roseberry, delays can occur.
The situation was further exacerbated by the impact of Storm Darragh, which caused widespread damage and increased the ESB’s workload significantly.
As a result, repairs in the area were delayed beyond the usual timeframe.
To address such issues in the future, the council has requested the public lighting maintenance contractor to allocate additional electricians to reduce repair turnaround times.
