McDonald’s Ireland has today confirmed the reopening of its Newbridge restaurant following a major fire at the site last August.

In a statement issued to the Kildare Nationalist today, a spokesperson explained that, having undergone an extensive reconstruction programme, the restaurant will welcome customers through its doors and drive-thru once again from 11am on Wednesday 4 September.

In August 2023, a car caught fire at the drive-thru on the Moorefield Road, one of the main routes through the town. Newbridge fire station and two additional stations were mobilised to the blaze, which caused extensive damage to the building.

Smoke was visible across a wide area and residents close to the fire were advised to keep windows and doors closed.

Barriers were subsequently erected around the site.

Speaking earlier this year, Sean Quirke, franchisee owner and operator of the McDonald’s Newbridge restaurant, said that since the fire there last August, “we have been overwhelmed by hundreds of messages of support from loyal customers, neighbours, stakeholders and elected representatives in the Newbridge area, and our partner groups and organisations across the local community. We are extremely grateful to each and every one of them for their kindness and encouragement.”
