A replay has been arranged for the Nurney versus Straffan Preliminary Round Auld Shebeen Intermediate Football Championship tie after Nurney’s appeal to the final scoreline of the original game was successful.

The game in Kilcullen last Friday evening ended in controversy when referee Alan Archbold deemed the final scoreline 0-14 to 1-10 in favour of Straffan, while Nurney mentors and officials, and media and independent observers in attendance, all agreed on a scoreline of 0-13 to 1-10.

There was a meeting of the Kildare CCCC on Monday evening and the successful appeal was based on verbal submissions, video evidence and the referee’s admission.

The replay is scheduled for Manguard Park on Tuesday 20 August at 8pm, with extra time and penalties if required to decide the winner.

No matter what the result of that game, there will be no redraw of the Auld Shebeen Intermediate Football Championship group stages. That draw took place on Monday evening on the basis of Straffan winning the tie and if they win the replay then the groups will remain unchanged. If Nurney win the replay then they and Straffan will swap groups.
