Kildare County Council has announced that Athy business owners will have the opportunity to apply to two different shopfront schemes this year.

At a recent Athy Municipal District meeting, cllr Mark Leigh asked if there were any plans for a shop front scheme in the Athy Municipal District for 2025.

The council confirmed that it has two schemes open for applications: the shopfront, universal accessibility and age friendly grant, and the retail window merchandising grant.

In light of the highly-anticipated opening of the Shackleton Museum, the new culinary school and food incubation centre in the Old Model School, and the continued development of the Barrow Blueway, the regeneration of storefronts could add to the new offerings coming to the town.

The council said it will review funding opportunities to assist property owners along Leinster Street, Emily Square, and Duke Street in the coming weeks.
