SIX new school zones have been delivered across the Athy Municipal District over the past three years, according to an update provided to councillors this week.
Responding to a question from cllr Brian Dooley, the council confirmed that school safety zones have been completed at Ballyroe, Levitstown, Kilkea, Castledermot, Nurney, and Ballyshannon.
Cllr Dooley also sought clarity on whether a school zone is planned for Scoil Mhicil Naofa in Athy. The council replied that the school had not applied to the National Transport Authority’s Safe Routes to School programme, which is required to progress such works.
However, officials noted that the Municipal District Office will examine the possibility once the planned HGV ban and new one-way system for Athy are finalised.
