A teenager was pronounced dead following a collision in Kildare yesterday evening.

The fatal collision occurred on Barrettstown Road, Newbridge on Thursday.

Gardaí and emergency services responded to the collision involving a single vehicle, a pick-up truck, shortly after 8pm.

The passenger, an adult male in his late teens, was taken to Naas General Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

The coroner has been informed and a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

The male driver, aged in his teens, was taken to Tallaght Hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries. There were no other injuries reported. Gardaí are appealing for information.

The road remains closed at this time pending examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to this incident to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 7.45pm and 8.15pm are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
