TikTok eyes 300 redundancies in Dublin

Up to 300 jobs could be at risk at TikTok's Irish operations.

The company employs around 2000 people in Ireland.

It's understood that it is part of a restructuring of its headquarters here and follows a similar number of job losses last year.

TikTok opened its Dublin base in June 2020 with 20 staff.

It subsequently announced that its first data centre in Europe would be located here, to house European user data, as part of TikTok’s move to assuage data protection concerns.

The company also has a sizeable content moderation operation in Ireland that looks after content for the EMEA and Latin American regions, and leads TikTok’s user safety strategy and enforcement for Europe and the UK.

Minister for Public Expenditure Jack Chambers says it shows the uncertainty the economy faces.

"It is very concerning to see further job losses in the tech sector. It does show the uncertainty that our economy is facing in the context of AI within the Labour market in particular."
