Perry's

THERE has been an outpouring of goodwill and sadness after it was reported that the local Athy family-owned supermarket, Perry’s, will be closing its doors at the end of the month.

It has been reported that the Leinster Street shop will officially close on New Year’s Eve this year.

The business, which has served the town of Athy for over 70 years, has been an ever-present fixture for many locally.

Athy locals expressed gratitude to the shop staff for their fantastic service.

Many online have said they will miss the excellent bakery, especially the scones, and many more wishing Perry’s staff and management the best of luck in the future. Patricia Berry from Athy Town Promoters wrote about the store closure online and said: “A very sad day for Athy with the news of Perry’s Supermarket closing. They have been part of our town for so many years, with generations of families passing through their doors. There are countless memories attached to Perry’s, and I don’t think there’s a person in Athy or beyond who hasn’t shopped there.

“This is devastating news for Leinster Street and for our community. It was always a pleasure to shop there. Thank you to the Perry family and the amazing staff for everything you have done for our community over the years. Your kindness, support, and service will always be remembered.”
