Tributes paid to Kildare lady who died in road collision

Tributes have been paid to a Kildare lady who tragically died after a road collision in Monasterevin on Monday.
Marie Heavey died following a collision between her bicycle and a truck. It occurred close to Finlay's Filling Station on the R414 Rathangan Road – known locally as the Cow Pastures - at Monasterevin on Monday (10 August) at approximately 9.50am.
Ms Heavey was conveyed by air ambulance to the Mater Hospital in Dublin, for treatment of serious injuries.
“She was a very active 80-year-old, up and down the road on that bike all day,” said a local who knew the victim.
“She was a great woman for calling in to visit people especially if they were housebound”.
In a post on the Monasterevin Daycare Centre Facebook page, they describe Marie as the "very heart of our centre for many years".
"Her presence, kindness and friendship meant so much to everyone, and she will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Marie’s family, her many friends, and all those who loved her at this very difficult time.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.
Road users who were travelling in the area of the R414 (Rathangan Road) – known locally as "Cow Pastures” - at Monasterevin, Co. Kildare, on Monday 10 August between 9.15am and 10.15am and who may have camera footage (including dash-cam), are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
