Kildare County Council addressed a dangerous gap in pedestrian access near two primary schools in Newbridge at Rathcurragh and Tracey's Meadows estates

PREPARATIONS are underway to address a dangerous gap in pedestrian access near two primary schools in Newbridge.

Cathaorileach Peggy O’Dwyer brought forward a motion in last week’s Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meeting urging the council to explore the feasibility of constructing a footpath to connect the Rathcurragh and Tracey’s Meadows estates in Newbridge to existing pedestrian infrastructure.

The proposed footpath would address a critical safety gap, as there is currently no safe crossing to access the footpath on the opposite side of the road, where two primary schools are located.

In response, the municipal district office acknowledged the importance of the request, highlighting the lack of connectivity in the area as a significant concern for local families.

Officials noted that the project would involve substantial work, including acquiring land, building extensive footpaths, and installing additional pedestrian crossings.

While the proposal is deemed necessary, the council confirmed there is no budget allocated for such works at present.

However, they have committed to preparing detailed drawings and cost estimates. The office will collaborate with cllr O’Dwyer to secure funding for the project.
