Woman gets nine months prison for Kildare petrol theft

Defendant pleaded guilty to stealing €30 worth of petrol
A WOMAN sentenced to nine months in prison for stealing €30 worth of petrol thanked the judge who sentenced her recently.
Sabrina Keogh (39), with an address at The Fairways, Pollerton, Carlow appeared in Naas District Court by videolink to plead guilty to a driveaway after putting the €30 of fuel into her vehicle at the Moorefield Applegreen in Newbridge on 25 February, 2023.
Barrister Aisling Murphy sought to get it adjourned to a later date, to see if she could work up some favourable mitigation circumstances.
However, after a brief phone call to her in the Dochas Detention Centre where she is serving a five-year sentence for aggravated burglary and assault causing harm, Keogh just asked to get this done and dusted on the day.
“She has had significant drug issues, but has done a number of beauty courses during her sentence, and so hopes that when she serves her sentence she’ll have a chance,” said Ms Murphy.
“OK. Nine months from today,” said the judge, prompting the gratitude of a prisoner who didn’t get an extension on sentence.
