A MOTORCYCLIST was arrested and charged following a serious speeding offence detected by the Naas Roads Policing Unit.

The incident occurred during a speed enforcement checkpoint, where the rider was recorded travelling at 132 km/h in a 80 km/h speed zone.

Gardaí described the speed as “reckless” and said it met the threshold for dangerous driving.

Authorities have issued a strong warning to motorists, stressing that excessive speed poses a significant risk not only to the driver but also to other road users, including pedestrians and families.

If convicted of dangerous driving, the motorcyclist could face a mandatory court appearance, a driving disqualification of up to two years, substantial fines, and a possible prison sentence of up to six months.

A conviction may also have long-term consequences, affecting employment prospects and travel opportunities.

Gardaí said they will continue to carry out enforcement operations targeting dangerous behaviour on the roads. Drivers are being urged to respect speed limits, which are in place to protect lives.

“There is no excuse for this behaviour,” said a Garda spokesperson. “We will continue to target those who choose to ignore the law and endanger others.”

“Slow down. Stay alive,” the statement concluded.
