Works to Athy footpaths held up

FUNDING constraints have caused uncertainty over footpath works in two residential areas of Athy.

This became clear at the most recent meeting of Athy Municipal District, where cllrs Brian Dooley and Aoife Breslin brought forward questions with regards to footpath works.

Fianna Fáil'S cllr Dooley asked the following: “Can the council confirm when it plans to replace footpaths in Forest Park, Athy where works were due to begin but were stopped in October?”

The council response was: “The municipal district office are awaiting funding allocations before we can commit to timelines for 2026. We can confirm it is at the top of the list for repair works to be completed.”

Cllr Aoife Breslin inquired whether the "council consider plans to add footpaths in Cois Bhearu, Athy to the footpath restoration list?”

“This can be added to the list of footpaths to be upgraded; however, we do have a limited funding source for these works," was the response from the council.
