The nominations for this year’s County Convention, which will be held in Cedral St Conleths on Monday 8 December at 7.30pm, have today been confirmed.
There won’t be a repeat of last year’s fireworks when Bryan Murphy mounted a strong challenge for the role of chairperson before being narrowly beaten by Mick Mullen but there looks let to be a couple of interesting elections.
Mullen (Chairperson), Larry Curtin (Vice-Chairperson) and Alan Dunney (Treasurer) will all return unopposed but it is around the positions of Secretary and Communications Officer were most of the intrigue lies.
After five years as secretary, and five years as PRO previous to that, Moorefield’s Christine Murray has completed her term and stands down and there are three in the race to replace her.
Lorraine Woulfe of Naas replaced Murray as PRO and has served four years in that position and she will vie for the the role with CCC Chairman Noel McKenna, of Ballyteague, and Elaine Connolly of St Laurences.
Woulfe has a year left in her time in the position now known as Communications Officer and will attempt to fulfil that if her bid for Secretary falls short. If she does become the new County Secretary then Sara Holden of Sarsfields and Rory McGrath of Kildangan will battle it out to succeed her.
