Tractor driver from Limerick on his way to the Ploughing was uninsured

A MAN who was on his phone while driving a John Deere tractor through Abbeyleix on his way to the National Ploughing Championships gave his brother’s name to gardaí.
Gardaí told Portlaoise District Court they also discovered that the 39-year-old was also driving while uninsured and without a driving licence.
David Sheehy, Ruppulagh, Glenroe, Kilmallock, Co Limerick pleaded guilty to driving while holding a mobile phone, driving without insurance or a driving licence and providing a false name to gardaí on 6 September last.
The court heard that the that Mr Sheehy, who had eight previous convictions, had given his brother’s name, Liam, to the gardaí.
Judge Andrew Cody convicted Mr Sheehy of driving without insurance, fined him €750 and disqualified from driving for four years; a €250 fine and a similar disqualification for driving without a licence and a €500 fine with a four-year driving ban for providing gardaí with a false name. He was further fined €500 for holding a mobile phone while driving.
