Waterford 2

Desy Balmer’s Under 20 team were defeated by Waterford in Saturdays League of Ireland game in FBD Hotels and Resorts Park.

The inability of the team to score once again haunted them. Although they controlled about 70% of the game fell by two goals to one.

Waterford opened the scoring after eight minutes when Mason Murphy scored. Klub Kildare tried and had various near misses before Aaron Cass scored Waterford’s second goal after fifty five minutes. Waterford looked home and dry at that stage but Klub Kildare put in a late push and when Oisin Irwin netted after eight four minutes Waterford were very nervous.

Despite having plenty of chances and one in particular by Jayden Parsons Klub Kildare were unable to get the equalising goal.

Wexford 3

Klub Kildare 8

Klub Kildare’s Men’s Under 14 side travelled to Enniscorthy to take on Wexford in their final game of the first phase of their league of Ireland campaign.

Klub Kildare were without four players due to injury and holidays but that didn’t stop the visitors from putting in an excellent performance.

From the first minute, the Kildare side were pressing from the front, determined, and never let up. The side went 1-0 up through a Ryan Breslin bullet header and were quick to double their lead a really well worked passage of play put Jake Norman through to calmly finish beyond the goalkeeper. Only four minutes later, Calvin Kelly Smyth got his first of the day to make it 3-0. Wexford managed to pull one back through a well taken free kick. The visitors didn’t lose focus and managed to grab another before the end of the first third through captain fantastic, Joe O’Connor.

Calvin Kelly Smyth managed to find his second and third of the game in the middle third, Wexford also managed to find another two of their own to see the scoreline reach 6-3.

Klub Kildare pulled further away with goals from Scott Byrne and Charlie McGann and a well deserved goal for Cillian Sullivan who had a great game in the middle of the park.

A fine performance that gave Klub Kildare a well-earned result. So many stand out performances, from the game but man of the match was Klub Kildare’s Daniel Dalton, a performance full of grit, hunger, and determination, but underpinned with excellent composure and technical quality.

That sees the end to a very enjoyable phase 1 section of the league for this group. Klub Kildare’s 14’s will be back in action in FBD Park in three weeks time on 24 May of this month in the last 16 of the Cup.

CK United 4

Klub Kildare 3

A midday start and a short trip south to local rivals CK united to set the stage for a thrilling National League encounter in Carlow,

Despite CK united being favourites, the visitors showed grit, resilience, and flashes of real quality throughout the game but unfortunately wasn’t Klub Kildare’s day, but it proved to be a fantastic advertisement for LOI Academy football.

Klub Kildare began extraordinarily strong, and had an excellent opportunity to take the lead with a brilliant free kick from Ava Buckley hitting the crossbar.

Against the run of play, CK struck first. With a goal from Kara Canavan at the 29th minute of the game followed by a goal by Sarah O’Leary six minutes later

At half-time, CK led 2–0, but the visitors have looked increasingly dangerous and were unfortunate going in 2-0 down at half time.

The restart saw a revitalised Klub Kildare and they started the brightest and started the second half like the first and fought for every ball, Tegan Lynch’s scored a fantastic goal at the 47 min mark from a fantastic corner from Ava Buckley,

Klub Kildare brought game to a draw when Buckley stepped up to curl a sublime free-kick into the bottom corner from a good distance away from the goal, a goal she’s deserved this season.

In the 63rd minute Kara Canavan gave the home team the lead again butthe visitors still determined and showed true resilience.

Teagan Lynch took the ball from halfway line and run into the box beating a number of CK United players on the way, while everyone was expecting a cross she decided to take a chance on herself and take the keeper on and scored what could be classed as goal of the season.

Then In controversial circumstances CK got the winner at 83 min with a mix up with the linesman putting up his flag for offside and then retracting it, causing some confusion but no matter the goal stood. Player of the Match- Ava Buckley.
