Cultural Kildare will show off her wares
Craicly Storyteller will be elebrating multiple stories of ‘The Cow’ in Derrymullen Farm, Allenwood
KILDARE is to host an incredible 80 events for Culture Night 2026 taking place across the county on Friday, 18 September from 4pm till late.
This will include free Shackleton Museum tours in Athy, talking about cows in Allenwood, and a discussion on a century of yarn bombing in the county in Leixlip.
There will be pottery on boats, eco-gardening in Kill, opera in Athy, jazz, drama, and even an exhibition about a trip to Antarctica that doesn’t mention a certain Ernest!
The Naas Ladies Choir are to perform at the new Library, while Aisling Moore will show you how to forage from a Kildare hedgerow in Sallins.
In Dubh in Newbridge there will be a masterclass on a Planxty album, and how the town has had an enormous influence on the music scene of the nation.
Beidh ceol, craic, caint, agus damhsa ins a lán áiteanna eile ar on oíche freisin, and a very curious bilingual evening called ‘Carve and Kindle - Butter Knives by Firelight’, with the Dúlra Forest School in Osberstown Woods.
The ‘Songs of Kildare’ will be celebrated by Eoghan Burke in the library in Kildare town, but to be fair, if you throw a stone in the county on the night you will likely hit a musician.
Sing and Sign are expected to blow socks (and gloves!) off again in Athy, while Castletown and Clongowes will be hosting subjects as diverse as respectively, Hindustani dance, and chapel art.
MERITS in Naas will host ‘Cybernetic Ecologies’ with digital artist Serena Devereaux, whilst in Monasterevin you can dip into drama with ‘Acting for Adults’.
The Tuckmill Gallery in Naas will host an exhibition of 40 years of professional artists in the county, while at the other end of the spectrum, Tara Whelan will offer a lantern making workshop in The Lodge in Rathangan, just in time for the longer evenings.
And not forgetting the chisellers, as Jessica Farrell will present a Lego workshop in the Old Schoolhouse in Rathangan, while Athy Film Club will be presenting a classic Looney Tunes cartoon evening.
And this is only scratching the surface… Culture Night is an annual, island-wide celebration of culture, creativity and the arts, promoting the rich cultural life that exists in communities across Ireland.
