Dogs will take the biscuit at Punchestown show

THE ANNUAL ‘Wag and Bone Show’ is set for Punchestown next month, 6 September, and it’s a family fun dog show for every breed and type. Registration is from 1pm, and the show itself starts at 2pm.

It will cost €5 to enter each of the nine classes or €20 to enter five classes on the day. Classes include ‘Waggiest Tail’, ‘Fanciest Female’, child under 12 with their dog, senior citizen with their dog, and veteran dog, to name a few.

The winners of each of the nine classes will be automatically entered into the ‘Best in Show’ for no charge.

But to skip the queue, you can pre-register for the Dog Show in advance. Prices are €5 per class but there is an exclusive online offer of €15 for four classes – however, this won’t be available on the day.

After the classes, there will be a fancy dress competition for both owner and dog, the dog you’d most like to take home, chosen by the clapometer, the dog most like its owner, and many other fun events.

If the event is postponed due to bad weather, the registration/payment will automatically transfer over to the new date.

Light refreshments will be available, and there will be subsidised microchipping provided by Naas Veterinary Clinic at €15 per dog.

Face-painting will be done by ‘Fab Faces by Mel’ and the very talented artist Lisa will be doing her Pet Pawtraits.

There will be a Noah’s Ark stall, from the Kildare and West Wicklow Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Charity (KWWSPCA) Shop in Newbridge, a stall selling items for your pet, a raffle and lots more.

The KWWSPCA will have its own information stall where you can learn about the work of the organisation, how to become a foster carer for dogs and for cats and also find out what dogs and cats are available for adoption.

Some of the KWWSPCA’s current rescue dogs will be at the show, as well as a large number of KWWSPCA rescue dogs who have found their forever homes.
