Kildare artist presents debut exhibition

Kym Tracey
A LOCAL award-winning artist will present her first solo exhibition of paintings at the Riverbank Arts Centre, with a launch this Friday (6 September).
Kym Tracey is a Kildare-based, NCAD graduate who is also the Emerging Visual Artist Bursary Award 2023 recipient.
Her exhibition ‘What’s The Occasion?’ is an engaging solo exhibition which showcases a collection of original paintings, drawings and sculptures, inspired by celebrations, occasions and key moments in time – some of which hold a personal narrative to the artist.
The Emerging Visual Artists Bursary is a collaboration between Kildare County Council Arts Service and Riverbank Arts Centre which enables the first major solo exhibition by an emerging artist. Previous recipients include Brenda Kearney, Shane Hynan, Marta Golubowska, Noel Hensey, Caoimhe McGuckin, Michelle McBride and Isobel Egan.
“Each year, we look forward to working with the recipient of this award to help realise their vision for their solo exhibition.” comments Caroline Williams, Director of Riverbank Arts Centre.
“It is a highlight in our visual arts calendar and a great opportunity to support the work of an emerging artist.
“ ‘What’s the Occasion?’ is full of powerful references and resonances, and Kym Tracey’s highly original artwork will connect strongly with everyone who encounters it” “Our partnership with the Riverbank for this award demonstrates our ongoing commitment to support artists to develop their artistic practice at all stages of their careers, as well as supporting the creation and presentation of their artwork on home soil,” said Eláine Donnelly, Acting Arts Officer, Kildare County Council Arts Service.
“This award has given me the means to create a new body of work without restrictions, and working with the staff at the Riverbank has been a brilliant learning experience for me as an emerging artist, to see the inner workings of a gallery and being involved in the process each step of the way,” said Kym Tracey.
“Kym’s artworks are contemporary and nostalgic all at once,” opines Caroline Williams.
“Initially taking shape through collage, Kym uses photo-transfer techniques to create unique and personable compositions.
