Kildare poet launches latest collection

A mixture of misanthropy and sentimentalism
Kildare poet launches latest collection

Tailights dissappearing is the latest collection by local poet Steve Denehan

An awarding winning local poet has released his latest collection. Steve Denehan from Allenwood’s latest work is Tailights Disappearing.

In her foreword, Genna Rivieccio, editor of The Opiate Books and The Opiate magazine, who has published many of Steve’s poems since 2018 and who edits this collection, makes the point that Steve “has a bone to pick with humanity” and that “he picks it so comically well.” It’s not all misanthropy and eye-rolling in Taillights Disappearing, for, like most cynics, Denehan is, somewhere deep down, a sentimentalist at heart.

They are affecting pieces about his young daughter. Steven is married to Eimear and a dad to Robin.

He is the author of two chapbooks and six poetry collections. Winner of the Anthony Cronin Poetry Award and twice winner of Irish Times’ New Irish Writing, his numerous publication credits include Poetry Ireland Review and Westerly.
