MONASTEREVIN Streetfest has announced its programme of events for 2024. For the fourth time, The People’s Market of Monasterevin, Monasterevin Community Centre and Monasterevin Women’s Shed have come together to produce a weekend of fun activities for all the family. The events will take place between Whelan Street, Monasterevin Community Centre and Monasterevin Council Hall.

This year, to make up a shortfall in funding, they are also running some fundraising events. For a weekend, they are turning back time in Monasterevin Community Centre for a whole weekend of nostalgic fun. On 19 July, The CY hop is back – a kids disco from 7.30-9.30pm (€5 entry at the door). The following day, bingo returns to The CY for (perhaps) one night only; doors open at 7.30pm and books are €5 each. On 21 July, step back in time and step on to the dance floor. The Wicklow Man will provide the music for an afternoon tea dance from 3-6pm, with tickets €10 at the door.

With the fundraising done, the team will spend the next two weeks making the final preparations, which will include some yarn bombing around the town. So far, the line-up for the August Bank Holiday weekend is:

1-4 August – The Streetfest Forest Trail in conjunction with The Woodstack Café in Moore Abbey Woods. Prize is a family ticket to Dublin Zoo with winner randomly picked on Sunday at StreetFest.

1 August – Dried flower arranging demonstration, from 2.30-4.30pm in Monasterevin Council Hall. €10 per person with light refreshments and raffle entry included.

2 August – Streetfest Community Recognition Award, sponsored by Monasterevin Credit Union. This year they honour the work of local firefighters, both past and present. This community event will be held in Monasterevin Community Centre at 4.30pm.

3 August – Nore Valley Pet Farm. After a successful visit last year, Nore Valley return to Monasterevin Council Hall from 11.30am-2pm with creatures small and cuddly. €2 per person and €5 for a family of three.

4 August – The big day. Streetfest hits Whelan Street! This year they have even more in store for the town. The outdoor street market will be bigger and better with carnival rides, face painters, live music (outdoors and indoors) and much more being added by the day.

5 August – Refusing to take a break at all this year, the Streetfest team have taken on the MCC 5K Family Run/Walk for fun. The funds raised from the run will go to Monasterevin Community Centre to cover the running costs of the festival. Registration is open on justrunsevents.ie.
