Mysterious connection between Napoleon and Kildare power station to be revealed

The old power station in Allenwood, which shares a mysterious link with Napoleon Bonaparte

KILDARE County Council is about to unveil the interesting connection between Napoleon Bonaparte and the former Allenwood Power Station.

This will be one of the great revelations available in a series of public consultations on the county’s forthcoming Heritage Plan which will be presented throughout the county’s libraries between Tuesday, 10 June, and Thursday, 12 June.

These are pre-draft consultations for the new Heritage Plan (2025-2031).

This plan aims to deepen our understanding of Kildare’s heritage and promote best practices in its conservation and management.

Heritage includes a wide range of elements from the past that merits preserving for future generations.

As the first step in developing this Plan, we invite the people of Kildare to share their thoughts on what heritage means to them and how we can work together to protect it. To join the online session, please email heritage@kildarecoco.ie and a link will be sent to you in advance of the meeting.

Submissions for the draft Heritage Plan can be made on the consultation portal from Monday, 9 June at: www.consult.kildarecoco.ie, and the closing date for receipt of submissions is Friday, 11 July.
